Two Rivers Middle School is named for the antebellum mansion of David McGavock and Elizabeth Harding. The middle school is located on McGavock Pike adjacent to the Two Rivers Park and Mansion in the Donelson suburb of Nashville. It was originally built in 1961 as the Two Rivers High School. In 1971 Two Rivers became a middle school serving grades seven and eight when McGavock High School opened up just down the street. In 1999 Two Rivers added grades five and six, giving the school a true middle school configuration.
The Two Rivers Middle School building is in good shape and during 2000 and 2001 a concentrated effort was put forth to renovate the then 43- year old facility with new bathrooms, handicap accessible ramps, an elevator, new cement sidewalks into the main entrance, and landscaping to beautify the grounds. Since then there has been a continuing effort to further enhance our building with fresh paint, new outer doors, and further landscaping. Much of the work has been done by Hands On Nashville volunteers.
